Ancient Rome Aemilian Antoninian and Sestertius 253AD

These are gorgeous coins. They come from the old Second Kingdom of France (1815 to 1847) and command good collector value today. Each coin contains 0.373 troy ounces of gold, so the base value (BV) is that number multiplied by the current price of gold. A the time of this writing, gold is trading at $1330 US dollars per troy ounce, so BV = 0.373 x 1330 = $496 US dollars.
Typical catalog values run like this:
worn: BV
average circulated: $700
well preserved: $1100
fully uncirculated: $2500
You can see that condition makes all the difference. There are some rare dates and mint marks:
1839A: $3000 in average circulated condition
1832B and 1833B: $1200 average circulated
1835L: $2000 average circulated
Joe was kind enough to include pictures of his specific 1837A coin. It is shown in our secondary picture (to the right, coins on diagonal, with shadows). Comparing Joe's coin to the almost uncirculated specimen in our primary picture, you can see substantial wear and some overall discoloration. This means Joe's coin is somewhere between worn and average circulated condition, giving a catalog value of $600 or so.

Formerly known as German East Africa, Tanzania started minting coins in 1966. Tanzanian coins come in two denominations: senti and shilingi, with 100 senti in one shilingi.
All of Tanzania's circulating coins, in all denominations, are made of non-precious metal and are worth very little, less than $1 US dollar in circulated condition, and a few US dollars in uncirculated.
Stargaze bingo games. Like most nations of the world today, Tanzania produces modern commemorative coins which they sell to collectors. These are made of gold and silver, and are worth their weight in precious metal.

Rare Old Coins

These are medallions issued by a gasoline company as a promotion during the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. There is one medallion for each Province. Even though the date says 1867, it was, in fact, produced in 1967.
In pristine condition these can bring up to $20 US dollars retail. Most, like the one in our picture, sell for less than $5 dollars.

What a cool coin. And valuable, too. Minted only in 1854, it was issued by the Argentinian Confederation, a short-lived structure of independent provinces with no formal head of state. After much turmoil the Confederation was replaced by a republic with its first issued coins dated 1881.

Germany Wurttemberg 3 Mark Wedding Commemorative 1911

These nice, hefty silver coins were struck in the German state of Wurttemberg. After the states united into one country, most currency was issued by the German state itself. However, many of the smaller states continued to mint commemorative silver coins, and this 3 (DREI) mark is one of those.
Catalog values are as follows:
worn: $12
average circulated: $20
well preserved: $35
fully uncirculated: $50
There is a cool twist with these coins. See the word 'CHARLOTTE' on the coin? On most coins, the horizontal bar in the H in that word will be where it should be, roughly in the center. But on about 1 in 70 coins, the H will be a so-called 'high bar in H' coin, where the horizontal bar is located closer to the top of the H.
These 'high bar in H' coins catalog at over $100 even when worn, and the value can reach $1000 for fully uncirculated coins in beautiful condition. Check your H!
